Police authorities in Anambra State, Nigeria, have arrested a 36-year-old woman, identified as Anulika Onyeanusia, over allegations of sexually abusing her seven-year-old daughter and distributing material linked to the alleged abuse online for financial gain.
The case came to public attention after a video allegedly showing the abuse circulated widely on social media, triggering outrage and calls for authorities to intervene.
According to Anambra State Police spokesperson Commissioner Tochukwu Ikenga, investigators used open-source intelligence to trace the suspect to Onitsha, where she was arrested.
The police operation also resulted in the rescue of four children aged between two and nine, who were reportedly under the suspect’s care. Several items were reportedly recovered and preserved as evidence as investigations continue.
The woman’s husband is also being questioned as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and determine whether other individuals may have been involved.
Police say the suspect allegedly admitted receiving money from a foreign-based individual in connection with the material. She reportedly attributed her actions to the “work of the devil.”
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered a thorough investigation and stressed the importance of protecting the rescued children, including addressing their psychological well-being.
Authorities are expected to continue investigating the case before determining the appropriate legal action.
