Cameroon Expands Digital Cocoa Traceability Ahead of Tougher Export Rules

Cameroon is strengthening the digital traceability of its cocoa sector as international markets increasingly demand proof of where cocoa is produced and whether it is linked to deforestation.

The National Cocoa and Coffee Board (NCCB) and agritech company COOKO signed a new three-year partnership on September 10, 2026, aimed at improving traceability, research, innovation and sustainability in the cocoa sector.

The partnership will support farm mapping, geospatial monitoring, digital harvesting records and auditable transaction data. These systems are intended to help Cameroon prepare for evolving international requirements, particularly the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The move could also improve transparency in the cocoa supply chain while helping farmers and exporters demonstrate the origin and sustainability of their products.

Cameroon has already been developing digital tools such as ONCC TRACE, which monitors cocoa transactions across the supply chain.
