FLOODING HITS SEVERAL AREAS ACROSS DOUALA AFTER HEAVY RAINFALL

What initially appeared to be flooding limited to only a few parts of Douala has reportedly turned out to be a much wider situation, with several neighbourhoods across the city experiencing significant water accumulation following heavy rainfall.

While areas around Bonamoussadi attracted attention because of flooding on the bridge and the disruption of vehicular movement, reports from residents indicate that other parts of the city were also badly affected.

Sable and Entre Mbanya were reportedly among the areas that experienced some of the worst flooding, with large amounts of rainwater accumulating on roads and in residential areas. Makepe was also affected, adding to concerns about movement and accessibility across several parts of the city.

For many residents, the extent of the flooding became apparent only after they attempted to leave their neighbourhoods. Some roads reportedly became difficult to navigate, while vehicles, taxis and motorcycles struggled to move through heavily flooded sections.

The widespread flooding has once again raised concerns about drainage systems, road infrastructure and the city's ability to cope with intense rainfall. In some neighbourhoods, even a few hours of heavy rain can result in substantial water accumulation, disrupting transportation and affecting businesses and households.

Commuters are being urged to exercise caution, particularly when approaching flooded roads or areas where the depth of the water cannot be clearly determined. Motorists and motorcycle riders are also advised to avoid taking unnecessary risks in heavily flooded areas.

The situation remains a developing one, and residents across Douala are encouraged to share reliable updates on road conditions and flooded areas as the city continues to deal with the effects of the rainfall.
