Four Cameroonian journalists were released on Monday, September 21, after spending five days in custody in Yaoundé.
The journalists — François Essomba, Igor Gwet Bibey, Solange Djuikam and Pierre Mouchili — had been detained while covering an official event at the Palais des Congrès.
Reports indicate that their detention was linked to suspicions surrounding the disappearance of glasses belonging to Economy Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey. The glasses were reportedly later found in the minister’s vehicle.
The journalists were released after several days in custody, according to reports. Their detention has attracted attention from media and professional organisations in Cameroon.
