The period from 2025 through 2026 has been particularly significant for the institution. From graduating hundreds of students and receiving national recognition for innovation to expanding into digital agriculture, strengthening academic partnerships and producing award-winning student innovations, ICT University has continued to expand its footprint within Cameroon's higher-education and technology ecosystem.

Building an African University Around Technology

ICT University operates from Yaoundé, Cameroon, with programs delivered through both onsite and online learning.

According to the university, its broader network serves more than 15,000 students worldwide through its different learning formats. Its academic offerings cover undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, diploma and professional programs across fields including information and communication technology, computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, business, banking and finance, accounting and other disciplines.

Cameroon's Ministry of Higher Education also lists the Information and Communication Technology University Institute and identifies Bachelor and Master's programs under the academic mentorship of the University of Buea, including Information and Communication Technology, Information Systems and Networking, Data Communication and Networking, Telecommunications and Software Engineering.

This combination of technology education and multidisciplinary learning has become increasingly relevant as Cameroon seeks to develop the human capital required for a more digital economy.


2025: A Major Year of Recognition and Growth

ICT University Named Most Innovative University

One of ICT University's most visible achievements in 2025 came in July when it received the Most Innovative University Award at the second edition of the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers' Association (CENPA) Awards.

The award was presented in Buea on July 5, 2025.

According to reporting by Cameroon News Agency and The Guardian Post, the institution was recognised for excellence in education, its role in training entrepreneurs and its contribution to advancing digital learning in Cameroon and beyond.

The recognition was significant because it reinforced one of ICT University's core institutional identities: using technology not simply as a field of study, but as an instrument for expanding access to education and developing practical skills.

The 2025 award also added to earlier recognitions received by the institution, including previous awards related to digital education and ICT training.


450 Graduates Enter the Professional World

Only weeks after the innovation award, ICT University marked another important milestone.

On July 26, 2025, the university held its eighth commencement ceremony in Yaoundé.

Cameroon Tribune reported that approximately 450 graduates received qualifications after completing programs across different academic levels and disciplines.

The graduates came from areas including:

  • Computer Science

  • Software Engineering

  • Cybersecurity

  • Accounting

  • Banking and Finance

  • Business Administration

  • Development Planning

  • Business Management and Sustainable Development

  • Accounting Information Technology

The ceremony was attended by representatives of Cameroon's higher-education establishment and government institutions.

The size and diversity of the graduating class demonstrated something important about ICT University's evolution.

While its name naturally associates the institution with computing and information technology, its educational model increasingly extends technology and innovation into business, finance, management and development-related disciplines.

For Cameroon, where graduate employability and youth entrepreneurship remain important national priorities, the university has also emphasised preparing students to create businesses and employment opportunities rather than depending exclusively on traditional employment.


Taking Technology Into Agriculture

Perhaps one of ICT University's most ambitious developments during 2025 was its expansion into digital agriculture.

Agriculture remains a major component of Cameroon's economy, but the sector faces familiar challenges: productivity, access to technology, youth participation, financing, climate pressures, logistics and modernisation.

ICT University has been attempting to approach some of these challenges from a technology perspective.

The AgriCampus-ICT-U Digital Agriculture Initiative

In July 2025, Cameroon's Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, publicly backed ICT University's digital agriculture initiative.

The initiative was designed around technology-enabled agriculture, entrepreneurship and practical training.

According to Cameroon News Agency, the five-year project was presented with a planned budget of approximately 996 million FCFA and was positioned as a response to challenges including youth unemployment, professional agricultural training and food sovereignty.

Rather than presenting agriculture only through conventional farming techniques, the initiative seeks to introduce students to the possibilities created when agriculture intersects with technologies such as data systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, sensors and digital platforms.

This represents an important shift in how agricultural careers can be presented to young Africans.

Instead of asking young people simply to "go into farming," the approach asks a different question:

What happens when software engineers, entrepreneurs, data specialists and agricultural experts work together to reinvent farming?


An International Digital Agriculture Partnership

The digital agriculture initiative gained further momentum toward the end of 2025.

ICT University developed cooperation with Brazil's Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), an institution with extensive experience in agricultural research and education.

In December 2025, ICT University founder Professor Victor Mbarika and a Brazilian delegation led by Professor Flavio Henrique Vasconcelos de Medeiros presented the initiative to Cameroon's Prime Minister, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute.

The meeting took place at the Star Building in Yaoundé on December 16, 2025.

The broader vision behind the partnership is particularly ambitious.

The project aims over five years to train thousands of young people in digital agriculture and encourage the development of agriculture-based businesses. Reporting on the initiative says the program targets 10,000 young people/students and 500 rural micro-enterprises, while introducing modern technologies into agricultural production and entrepreneurship.

If successfully implemented at the planned scale, the initiative could become one of ICT University's most consequential contributions beyond conventional university education.

It represents an attempt to connect four areas that are extremely important to Cameroon's future:

technology, agriculture, entrepreneurship and youth employment.


Leadership Transition and Institutional Growth

December 2025 also brought an important leadership transition.

Professor Emmanuel Tonye was appointed Vice-Chancellor of ICT University, succeeding Professor Jean-Emmanuel Pondi.

Professor Pondi was subsequently honoured as the institution's first Honorary Vice-Chancellor, while a new auditorium bearing his name was dedicated in recognition of his contribution to the university.

Professor Awono Onana Charles, a former Director of the National Advanced School of Engineering of Yaoundé, was also welcomed as Vice-President of ICT University.

Professor Tonye brought considerable academic and research experience to the position, including work in telecommunications, information systems, electronics, remote sensing and educational engineering.

The leadership transition therefore represented more than a change in administration. It signalled an attempt to strengthen the university's academic, research and institutional capabilities as it entered its next phase of development.


2026: Moving From Institutional Growth to Practical Innovation

The momentum continued into 2026.

One of the clearest demonstrations came not from university administrators, but from ICT University students themselves.

ICT University Students Win the 2026 ICT for Africa Tech Innovation Challenge

In August 2026, ICT University hosted the ICT for Africa Summit and Tech Innovation Challenge, bringing together young innovators who developed solutions targeting challenges in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, finance and education.

ICT University's Agribot team won first place in the university category, receiving a prize of 1 million FCFA.

The team developed Agribot, a multi-sensor agricultural robot designed to provide a more flexible alternative to deploying numerous fixed sensors across agricultural fields.

The victory is particularly interesting when considered alongside the university's broader digital agriculture strategy.

Digital agriculture at ICT University is therefore beginning to appear not merely as an institutional concept or academic program, but also as an area where students are developing working technological solutions.

That connection between research, education, entrepreneurship and prototypes is critical for universities that want to contribute meaningfully to Africa's technological development.


Strengthening Quality Assurance With the University of Buea

Another major development in 2026 concerned ICT University's relationship with the University of Buea.

The two institutions have an academic mentorship framework covering specified programs. The underlying agreement includes provisions related to admissions, student records, teaching standards, examinations, academic oversight and the issuance of attestations.

The relationship had, however, faced a prolonged dispute surrounding the implementation of the mentorship arrangement and certification for some graduates.

In July 2026, a significant breakthrough was reached.

Graduates affected by the longstanding certification situation began receiving University of Buea-approved certificates, following cooperation involving ICT University, the University of Buea and Cameroonian government authorities.

The development is important precisely because certification and quality assurance are fundamental to higher education.

Rather than ignoring the previous disagreement, its resolution can be viewed as an important step toward stronger institutional accountability, clearer academic oversight and greater certainty for students.

ICT University has subsequently announced that certificates issued by the University of Buea under the mentorship arrangement are available for eligible graduates and that admissions for the 2026–2027 academic year are proceeding under the academic mentorship framework.


Greater Attention to Academic Quality

The university has also placed visible emphasis on examination quality assurance in 2026.

Ahead of second-semester examinations, ICT University's examination processes included internal evaluation as well as external collaboration with the University of Buea.

According to information published by the institution, examination questions underwent a two-stage vetting process, with attention given to ensuring that assessments measure both academic understanding and practical competencies.

For technology-oriented education, this distinction matters.

A software engineering graduate, for example, should not only be capable of explaining software development theoretically. The graduate should be capable of analysing requirements, designing systems, writing software and solving actual engineering problems.

The same principle applies to cybersecurity, networking, digital agriculture, business technology and other applied disciplines.


Why ICT University's 2025–2026 Journey Matters

ICT University's achievements become more interesting when considered within the broader challenges facing African higher education.

Africa has an exceptionally young population, while digital technologies, artificial intelligence, automation and new business models are changing the skills employers and entrepreneurs require.

Universities therefore face increasing pressure to produce more than degree holders.

They must help produce problem solvers, researchers, entrepreneurs, engineers and innovators.

ICT University's recent direction reflects this reality.

The renewed implementation of the University of Buea mentorship framework and resolution of the certificate dispute represent important steps toward providing greater institutional certainty for students.


More Than an ICT School

Perhaps the most important thing to understand about ICT University today is that its ambition extends beyond teaching people how to use computers.

The institution's philosophy is built around applying ICT across disciplines.

A business student increasingly needs digital skills.

An agricultural entrepreneur may need sensors, artificial intelligence and data analytics.

A financial institution needs cybersecurity and software systems.

A healthcare organisation needs digital records and data management.

Governments need digital infrastructure.

Entrepreneurs need the ability to build and operate technology-enabled businesses.

This multidisciplinary application of technology could ultimately become one of ICT University's strongest differentiators.

2025–2026 and Counting

Between 2025 and September 2026, ICT University has experienced a particularly eventful period.

It received the 2025 Most Innovative University Award, graduated approximately 450 students, expanded its digital agriculture ambitions, strengthened international agricultural collaboration, presented an ambitious technology-driven agriculture project to the Government of Cameroon, transitioned to new academic leadership, worked toward resolving a longstanding certification challenge, strengthened cooperation with the University of Buea and saw its students win the 2026 ICT for Africa Tech Innovation Challenge with Agribot.

These achievements do not mean that the university's journey is complete.

They point instead toward the direction in which the institution is attempting to move.

The bigger test will be how these initiatives translate over the coming years into successful graduates, sustainable companies, impactful research, new technologies, jobs and measurable solutions to problems facing Cameroon and the wider African continent.

But the direction is increasingly clear.

ICT University is attempting to build an educational ecosystem where technology meets entrepreneurship, research meets practical problem-solving, and university education meets Africa's development needs.

As artificial intelligence, robotics, digital agriculture, cybersecurity, fintech and other emerging technologies reshape economies around the world, institutions capable of connecting education with these changes will become increasingly important.

From its campus in Yaoundé, ICT University is seeking to play that role.

And judging by the developments recorded between 2025 and 2026, its story is still being written.

The achievements are growing. The partnerships are expanding. The students are innovating. And the journey continues.
