A good question does not always seek a quick answer. It can reveal that two people are using the same word differently, or that a confident conclusion rests on an untested assumption.
The questioning tradition associated with Socrates remains useful because it treats thought as a shared activity. Inquiry becomes less about winning and more about discovering what we actually mean.
