Cameroon’s World Bank Portfolio Stands at CFAF 1.806 Trillion as New Development Priorities Emerge
Cameroon currently has a development cooperation portfolio with the World Bank Group valued at approximately US$3.2 billion, equivalent to about CFAF 1.806 trillion.
The figure was highlighted during a meeting in Yaoundé on September 8 between Economy Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey and Harold Tavares, World Bank Executive Director for Africa Group II, who was on a working visit to Cameroon.
The discussions focused on ongoing World Bank-supported operations, achievements so far and future projects. Energy emerged as a major priority, with reliable electricity identified as essential for economic growth, private-sector development and job creation.
The partnership also covers transport infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, access to drinking water, education and urban development, alongside reforms aimed at improving public finance management and the business environment.
The Yaoundé-Douala economic corridor was also highlighted as an important infrastructure link capable of connecting economic centres, facilitating trade and supporting regional integration.
The government and the World Bank now face the challenge of ensuring that the resources mobilised translate into visible projects, stronger economic activity and improved opportunities for Cameroonians, particularly young people and women.
